Heart Disease/Stroke

While heart disease isn’t our specialty, heart health is part of our goal of overall women’s health. Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women? In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that “a woman suffers a heart attack about every 90 seconds in the United States.”

Factors that increase your chance of heart disease and heart attack include diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and/or cholesterol, smoking, poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, and heredity. Some of these health conditions and lifestyle choices can lead to other issues, including infertility and certain types of cancer. That’s why it’s so important for women to take care of their hearts and their overall health.

Lower your risk of heart disease and heart attack by:

  • Eating a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Ensure your diet is low in salt, cholesterol, and trans fat
  • Exercise regularly and work to maintain a healthy weight
  • Quit smoking (or don’t start in the first place)
