About George A. Resta III, MD
With specialized expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, or MIGS, Dr. Resta has received the designation of COEMIG Master Surgeon in minimally invasive gynecology. His practice now centers on the management of fibroids, pelvic prolapse, and incontinence. Patients needing surgical management of these issues in the past would often only be offered surgeries requiring hospitalization, large incisions (with large scars), and long recoveries. Minimally invasive surgeries are typically done in an outpatient setting, utilize tiny incisions, and have much shorter recovery times. Almost all gynecologic surgeries can be done using these minimally invasive techniques. These procedures offer better outcomes and a significantly better quality of life.
Dr. George “Tony” Resta is a fourth-generation Washingtonian. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his residency training at Walter Reed and National Navy Medical Centers. He joined Capital Women’s Care in 2007 after his military service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Dr. Resta has held multiple physician leadership roles. He served as both chair and vice-chair of the department of OB-GYN at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, and as Medical Director at Maryland Surgery Center in Rockville, where he was instrumental in transitioning major surgical cases to the outpatient setting. He has been active in resident education for nearly 20 years and is assistant clinical professor at George Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Resta and his wife of 30 years love to travel and enjoy spending time with their three children.
