About Peter O’Hare, MD

I was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. I am married and have three young children. Outside of my practice I spend time with my family doing a variety of outside activities, sports and traveling. I enjoy cooking, gardening and listening to live music. I am grateful to have the ability to practice what I love and help my patients improve their lifestyle. My Approach to care My philosophy is centered on patient education and personalized treatment paths. I provide my patients with an objective assessment of their options and help them understand how to make the best choice for themselves. I listen to my patients, hear what they are actually bothered by (which may not be in line with what is happening within their body) and help them decide if they want a surgical option if one exists, offer non-surgical options, or a hybrid treatment. Minimally invasive surgery is my specialty, however, I understand that surgery is not the answer for everyone. In some cases, I work with patients on non-surgical management for a while, until they are ready to have a procedure. Many patients decide to go with non-surgical management as their long-term plan. I tailor treatment to the individual. That’s why I chose to leave a giant healthcare organization and join a specialized group, Capital Women’s Care, to work with Dr. Pillai-Allen. She and I have the same approach to patient care, and I feel lucky to have joined what she started here at Capital Women’s Care. Treatments used in our practice I treat all urogynecologic and benign gynecologic issues–no matter how complex–, including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic floor disorders, urinary/bowel fistula, hematuria, urethral stricture and diverticulum, and interstitial cystitis. I provide a wide range of treatment options that include behavioral intervention, medical therapies, and surgery. I have extensive experience with robotic, vaginal and laparoscopic reconstructive procedures. My clinical interests also include therapies for urinary incontinence including Bulkamid injections, urethral slings, sacral neuromodulation and botox injections. My training also included advanced treatments for interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia and pelvic floor muscle disorders. Professional Training I completed my fellowship training in Urogynecology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and then joined MedStar Medical Group in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. I served as the director for the division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery for 8 years. During this time I successfully performed more minimally invasive pelvic floor reconstructive surgeries than any other surgeon in the region. I was awarded Top Doc status during this tenure. Additionally, I commit time to surgical training and education to medical students and residents at George Washington University School of Medicine.
