Sheila Bennett completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, summa cum laude, in 1987 and went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Midwifery, summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1993. In 2001, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award, a national recognition, for her clinical work with midwifery students. Dedicated to promoting cultural competence, she has lived in Bogota, Colombia as a foreign exchange student and later in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Maternal-Child Health. She has traveled on medical missions to both Haiti and St. Lucia and is fluent in both Spanish and French. Her medical interests lie in adolescence, the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infection, birth control options and management including IUDs and subdermal implants, in-office gynecologic procedures, including hysterosonography, biopsy, colposcopy and endometrial ablation for dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Sheila is committed to providing her clients with high-quality, culturally appropriate care by truly listening to women and endeavoring to work together with them to achieve their optimal level of health and wellness. She is happily married with three children and enjoys traveling, dancing, art and refinishing old furniture.
