Your annual well-woman visit is an important part of your overall healthcare. In addition to screening and testing for various cancers and sexually transmitted infections, your provider will want to discuss your health and lifestyle. How can you make the most of the time with your provider? Be your own advocate by sharing information and asking questions!
Health History
Keep an up-to-date list of allergies, illnesses, injuries, and surgeries, as well as your family health history. Your provider will also be interested in personal habits, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, and sexual history – including your current birth control method, how it’s working, and if you need to make any changes.
Medication List
Provide a list of medication you’re currently taking – dosage, how often, and reason. Include prescription medication, over the counter, supplements, vitamins, and herbals so your provider can better understand the big picture.
New Signs or Symptoms
Share any signs or symptoms you may be experiencing with your provider. These can be physical concerns (such as loss of sex drive, painful intercourse, heavy or irregular bleeding, or urinary problems) or changes in mental health, such as becoming depressed. Your provider will want to know:
- When did it start?
- How does it feel//how is it affecting you?
- Have you tried anything to alleviate the signs or symptoms?
