DEXA Osteoporosis Centers

Early Detection and Prevention are Key to Minimizing Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a bone disease associated with decrease in the bone mineral density leading to a high risk of fractures. Women 65 years of age or older, anyone with family history of osteoporosis, juveniles who are suffering with weak bones from birth, diabetics, those suffering with kidney stones, intestinal disorders, and any type of bone related issues are at high risk for developing the disease. Along with a calcium enriched diet, sensible, weight-bearing exercise, and medications, this scan should be part of the medical evaluation for all menopausal women and women at high risk.

A bone density scan done by Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) can identify persons at risk for Osteoporosis. The scan evaluates and detects early deterioration of bone mass and can measure the success of treatment for patients with Osteoporosis and Osteopenia.

Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry helps to show actual bone density and gives quick results. This device passes X-ray radiations through the bones and alterations of the X-ray beams are produced depending on the depth of the bones.

The bone density is evaluated after passing one or two rounds of X-ray radiation. This scanning method mainly evaluates the spine and hips. These scan screens and recognizes the degradation of bone mass in the budding stage and can also help to evaluate the favorable outcome of treatment for osteoporosis sufferers.
